Crawford Gives, county's annual days of giving, approaching fast

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

“For it is in giving that we receive.”

“Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.”

The preceding are a few inspiring quotes from some wise men and women.

So why the “giving” theme? We’re here to remind you that an important local annual event will soon be upon us.

Crawford Gives returns Aug. 10 and 11. The inaugural event, organized by the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation, raised more than $160,000 for Crawford County nonprofit organizations last October.

Common Roots received $3,388.36 through last year’s Crawford Gives. This year, our goal is $5,000. With your help, we know that’s an achievable goal!

Common Roots’ mission is to create sustainable, community-based affordable housing. We are a young, grassroots organization that is currently working on our first housing project at 1189-91 South Main St. in Meadville. Thanks to amazing volunteers, the property is gutted, plans are completed and we’re ready to begin Stage One of the renovation.

This stage involves infrastructure, such as framing and rebeaming, constructing a beautiful double-decker back porch and installing an efficient utilities system. All money we raise during the 48-hour period of midnight Aug. 10 to 11:59 p.m. Aug. 11 will help us complete this crucial first stage.

To donate on Crawford Gives days, visit crawfordgives.org and select Common Roots. Type in how much money you’d like to provide — even $5 is a big help! — before entering your credit card information and submitting your donation.

Gifts received through Crawford Gives are tax deductible donations under applicable federal and state laws.

Oh, and if you were curious where we found the above quotes, here’s the link. Here’s another one we put together. It just so happens to go along with Common Roots’ mission:

“We have things in common and should work together to do things for the greater good.”

We hope you’re inspired. We are.
